Greg Spencer came
to me and Joe (Whiting) and offered to manage us – he really
thought it was a waste that we weren’t out there working together.
We got Pat DeSalvo (from our previous band, Public Eye) on bass,
Tony Schmizzi from Joe’s Bandit Band days on keys, and drummer
Robbie Spagnoletti (yes, the band sounds like the cast of The Godfather),
and we were good to go and christened the Doyle – Whiting
Band. This was another all-digital live recording, once again on
the Sony F1 system, this time recorded at UCA Studios in Utica and
engineered by Bill Scranton.
Although the digital recording really seemed to work on the Kingsnakes’
previous album, I can hear it as being not very flattering to my
edgy guitar sound, and the ‘80s use of Simmonds electronic
drums was very ill-advised on a few cuts. Nevertheless, it’s
a good representation of the band at the time.
