Well, this is
the record that almost sunk the Blue Wave ship! We spent a lot
of time writing the songs, making demos, etc. Greg (who was still
our manager and label head) used to spiff me and Joe $15 each
for every original tune we turned in that was accepted. Believe
it or not, it was a strong incentive at the time!
We also spent a lot of time recording it at UCA, once again with
Bill Scranton. It was recorded analog to 2” tape, and we
spent our time recording and mixing. It was also an expensive
package, artwork-wise. So I don’t think it ever made its
money back. But it garnered great reviews (the late Brian Bourke
called it “the best local record EVER”), and it turned
out to be the final document of the band. Circumstances were about
to change dramatically in my personal life, and except for a brief
return to record “Swamp Water” and “Avenue Breakdown”
with Backbone Slip (which was really The Doyle – Whiting
Band under a different name), my tenure with Blue Wave and as
a Syracuse resident would end until my return in 1993.
